Jute is one of the oldest packaging materials in the world. The fiber has been cultivated and processed in Bengal for centuries. However, its global rise as a packaging material began in the 19th century, when industrialization turned the regionally used plant fiber into a mass material for global trade. Stable jute sacks were used to transport numerous commodities, from cotton, coffee and salt to fertilizer.
For some time now, jute has been experiencing a renaissance in the packaging sector. The reason is not only nostalgia, but above all sustainability: jute is biobased, biodegradable and can be used, among other things, as an alternative to plastic carrier bags, gift packaging, agricultural packaging or reusable bags. Kompackt61 has expanded the field of application for the natural fiber to include insulated packaging through a special packaging design. Since the beginning of 2026, the company has been part of Ecocool.
Temperature-controlled shipping places special demands on packaging. Packaging must protect products not only from heat or cold, but also from mechanical stress during transport. Jute is particularly well suited as a base material for this purpose.
