The mandatory limit values for PFAS and heavy metals have been in effect since August 12—but the Commission still has outstanding questions to address. The PFAS Task Force’s recommendation for a harmonized sampling and testing methodology is still in the draft stage and is currently being coordinated with the member states. The publication of this far-reaching recommendation—addressed to authorities, manufacturers, and suppliers—is imminent. It is based on the PARC tiered approach and the study “Development of a Risk Matrix for Assessing PFAS in Food Packaging” (Wack et al., Foods, 2026), to which the draft directly refers.
