Driving Force for the Industry: Start-ups and Innovators at FACHPACK

This year, FACHPACK once again offers the perfect meeting place and networking platform for young companies, innovators, and start-ups in the packaging industry. They will be presenting their companies and products at the Young Innovators and Newcomer Pavilion joint stands.

The Newcomer Pavilion is a unique opportunity for young companies to showcase their innovative products.

The industry never stands still; it always remains innovative and vibrant. FACHPACK offers a comprehensive overview and is the key source of inspiration. Start-ups and companies with new ideas and innovative products will find the ideal environment here. Visitors will once again gain in-depth insights into the various fields of the packaging industry this year, while young companies can present their products, gather information, and establish new networks or expand existing ones. The Newcomer Pavilion and Young Innovators joint stands offer the perfect opportunities for this.

Fresh Ideas from International Newcomers

Ten companies will be presenting themselves in the Newcomer Pavilion in Hall 3.5 in 2025. The requirements for participation include: they must not be older than five years, must have fewer than 20 employees, and must have participated a maximum of three times. They must either be new to the industry or be based outside Germany.

This year, they come from six countries. These include Meadow, a Swedish specialist in packaging made from metal and renewable raw materials, as well as reusable and jewelry packaging. They offer cans, bottles, and buckets made from molded plastic. They provide the outer shell for aluminum containers used as cartridges for cosmetics and hygiene products, and the lids can be attached with a screw cap. Founded in 2020, the company focuses on replacing single-use packaging with aluminum containers that can be completely recycled. The product cycle lasts an average of 60 days.

and-less targets system and communal catering providers with standardized reusable packaging. The Austrian start-up has expanded its range of containers made from sustainable materials in GN format, the standard size for the catering industry to include the reusable and-less XL tray, which holds 3.4 liters and is tailored to the cook-and-chill process. The focus of all products is on the development of sealable reusable packaging. The founders’ goal is “reusability with added value.”

Noriware starts one step earlier. Founded in 2022, the company from Lupfig, Switzerland, develops solutions from renewable and biodegradable raw materials to completely replace plastic. As an alternative that offers the same possibilities as plastic but has a high sustainability effect, CEO Jessica Farda is focusing on algae. Her idea is to exploit the strengths of algae for use as a sustainable packaging material.

The Innovations of the Start-Ups at One Stand

FACHPACK offers start-ups a second platform at the Young Innovators joint stand, but they have to meet other requirements: the number of employees must not exceed 50, annual turnover must not exceed ten million euros, and the companies must not be older than ten years. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is supporting their presence at the trade fair, and the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) is reimbursing up to 60 percent of the stand costs.

This year, 21 companies are represented in Hall 3, offering solutions for digitalization, packaging materials, and technology, and answers to questions about sustainability.

Cell2Green has found one such answer in the development of biodegradable and reusable packaging materials. The start-up from Bad Doberan uses biodegradable and reusable packaging materials made from bio-based cellulose to produce its cellulose films. According to the company, it is five times thinner than LDPE and cellophane and is manufactured without the use of toxic chemicals, using bio-waste, among other things.

Wax Solutions specializes in bio-based barrier coatings for packaging papers to replace fossil raw materials with fiber-based paper packaging for food and non-food products.

Papair, a specialist in bubble wrap, also wants to implement such a replacement. Five years after its founding in April, the Hanover-based company received an international patent for Papair Wrap.

The three founders, Fabian Solf, Christopher Feist, and Steven Widdel, are presenting two new developments at the trade fair. For the first time, the paper is available in a width of 800 millimeters, customized to customer requirements in terms of length and width. Production is carried out entirely in-house. The second innovation is coatings made from recycled material.

In the field of digital applications, Reo and Packintelx will be presenting their products. Reo has developed a reusable system for cosmetics packaging. The digital platform will launch in Munich in the fall with phase one in cooperation with four cosmetics brands, a supermarket chain, and three VollCorner stores. Customers can return the packaging to the usual deposit machines.

With its new digital platform, Packintelx aims to support companies in the industry in handling and implementing the PPWR. The Mainz-based software company will inform trade fair visitors about the solution shortly after its launch on September 17.

“Companies will soon have to deal with the concrete implementation of the PPWR obligations. This is exactly where our platform comes in: it helps companies reduce costs and save time,” says Managing Director Siddharth Bagri with conviction. Users were given the opportunity to check their packaging offerings for PPWR compliance and then fulfill the regulation in practice. The platform includes an analysis tool and an interface to the recycling industry.

First Meeting on the Eve of FuturePack

FACHPACK is launching a new event for start-ups this year with FuturePack. On the day before the trade fair, September 22, it will offer a meeting place for young professionals and innovators in the “Brussels” hall at the NCC Mitte exhibition center, with start-up pitches, panel discussions, exhibition areas, and an award ceremony on the program
