Jokey joins RAL Quality Association
Jokey has been a member of the RAL-Gütegemeinschaft Rezyklate since the beginning of the year, a quality association for recycled materials from household collections. The quality association founded by Grüner Punkt and partners in April 2018 voluntarily submits to the quality and testing regulations recognised by the RAL Institute..
As a member, Jokey will in future be entitled to use the RAL quality mark %-Recycling-Plastic. Jokey thus documents in which packaging plastics from the yellow bin are recycled and used and what their percentage share is.
"For our customers, the RAL quality mark creates maximum transparency", underlines Marketing Manager Michael Schmitz. "When plastic recyclates are used, a distinction must be made as to whether they originate from production waste or from waste generated by the end consumer. Since the very beginning, production waste has flowed back into the production of new plastic packaging in the form of so-called regranulates. With the new quality mark, we can now provide precise proof of the extent to which we actually use post-consumer recycled materials in the manufacture of our containers. This enables consumers to identify our environmentally conscious and resource-saving packaging more quickly at the point of sale."
First successes of recyclate campaign, started in 2018, have become apparent Against the background of the new Packaging Act (VerpackG), which came into force on January 1, 2019, Jokey once again focused on the increased use of secondary raw materials from post-consumer collections in the non-food sector. Since then, the topic has been promoted in a recyclate campaign, the initiative "Grey is the new green". Jokey has over 25 years of sound expertise in this field. In 1991, the company first launched grey recyclate buckets for the non-food industry. "Unfortunately, customers did not accept this packaging sufficiently at the time. Paints, building materials or chemical products are just as well and safely packaged in it as they are in new plastics ", Michael Schmitz also emphasizes. “Encouragingly our customers have recently become more and more open to the topic, and thus are increasingly considering the use of recyclates.”
RAL quality mark expands Jokey Eco Concept The use of the new RAL quality mark on Jokey plastic packaging, together with the recyclate campaign, is now intended to further promote ecological awareness among customers. In doing so, Jokey's responsible persons are focusing above all on the high acceptance of the independent and high-quality RAL quality mark by consumers. By joining the quality association, Jokey is consistently continuing its path which is centred around the Jokey Eco Concept with an attention-grabbing signal to customers and consumers: maximum sustainability along the entire production life cycle. "From our point of view, the new quality mark on our recycled packaging reinforces the message that packaging responsibility is a task for society as a whole," believes Michael Schmitz. Consumers could thus better understand that valuable raw materials remain in the cycle in order to conserve resources and protect the environment and climate in a sustainable manner.
