The hand-held digital sensor system TecScan is used for non-destructive sample control of the protective atmosphere of packaging along the distribution chain. In this way, it guarantees the consumer the highest food quality. 80% of packaged perishable foods such as fish, meat, cheese, bread and vegetables, as well as pharmaceuticals, are packaged in a protective atmosphere. This does not contain oxygen and therefore slows down the aging of the food and guarantees its shelf life. Until now it was not possible to control this protective atmosphere without destroying the packaging. The system consists of the TecScan hand-held device and a sensor spot printed on the inside of the packaging. The TecScan detects the sensor spot and then measures the oxygen content in the packaging.
The TecScan is very easy to use due to the factory calibration and the built-in display and can be used flexibly anywhere along the supply chain. Due to the very high measuring range, starting from 100 ppm to 21% O2, the TecScan provides the most accurate values for quality assurance. The measured data is stored in the instrument and can be transferred via USB connection or Bluetooth. The application areas are, for example, in the food industry for the control of so-called MAP packaging and for the non-destructive control of atmospheres in diagnostic and cell grow vessels and biotechnology.
