Paper-based packaging solution with integrated heat sealability
Reducing the consumption of fossil resources in packaging is a major concern for Sappi. For this reason, the company has invested for many years in the development of packaging papers with additional features, such as barrier properties and heat sealability. This also applies to its latest product innovation: Sappi Seal, a functional paper with integrated heat sealing functionality and a dispersion coating on the reverse side. It can replace papers with a PE coating and, compared with existing packaging solutions, uses up to 50 per cent fewer fossil resources. Additionally, production also results in 48 per cent less CO2 emissions (source: Ecochain).
The heat-sealable packaging paper has excellent sealing qualities and also an acceptable moisture barrier against water vapour. Sappi Seal also amazes with impressive printing results. And especially important for consumers, flexible packaging produced with Sappi Seal can be opened very easily and accurately.
This functional paper is ideally suited for both primary and secondary packaging. Food – such as sugar, tea and sweets – can be packaged just as well as non-food products, such as children’s toys and DIY products. The paper is currently available with a grammage of 67 g/m². Various application examples will be presented at FachPack.
