Everything from a single source – PP and PET straps from Mosca
Mosca not only provides top-quality strapping machines, but also the corresponding plastic straps. At one of Europe’s most modern plants in Muckental in the Odenwald region, the company produces tear resistant plastic straps made of PP and PET. In addition, Mosca extended the strap range to include PLA straps, organic plastic straps from renewable raw materials that can be composted after use. Sustainability has always played an important role in Muckental from planning and construction to daily operations of the plant.
Several automated extrusion lines in operation 24/7 produce PP and PET straps for strapping machines in Muckental. Ranging in width from 5 to 15 mm, the straps can be used in all strapping machines, irrespective of the machine type or manufacturer. The Mosca plant meets growing customer demands for sustainability on many levels. When the plant was built, Mosca utilized the potential of the large flat roof to install solar panels covering an area of about 2,500 sqm. The system feeds power to the grid through three inverters. This makes it possible to manufacture climate-neutral straps, since the PET strap production facility uses no more energy than is generated by the in-house photovoltaic system. The current status and effectiveness of the system and its components can be monitored at any time via Internet. Energy is even recycled inside the production hall. The isolated hot parts of the machine equipment provide high energy efficiency and any remaining waste heat is used to heat the hall on cold days. Energy gained from brake lines is made available to the system again in form of electricity, since parts of the production line have powered motors with an electronic transformer.
Tear-resistant, environmentally friendly and unpolluted
Mosca continuously works on offering customer- oriented solutions. An important product is the 5 mm wide standard polypropylene strap. Here a linear length of up to 8,000 metres on a coil is offered by the latest spooling technology instead of the usual linear length of 6,500 metres. This saves not only space in transportation, but allows longer operating times with fewer coil changes and set-up costs for the customer.
These straps are available in 5-15 mm widths. They are eco-friendly, safe for use with food and pollutant-free. The standard color is black, but other colors and sizes can be produced in the same grade on request.
These straps are available in 9.5-15.5 mm widths. PET strap is made from 100 percent recycled material. Slight colour variations are inevitable and do therefore not pose a quality criterion. The straps are temperature stable and guarantee high strength and elasticity for optimally securing loads. The PET straps are used in an extremely diverse range of industries. They are used for strapping stacks of paper and corrugated board and also for entire pallets with more solid loads, including bricks, wood or cans. It is irrelevant whether the strap is sealed using the heat-welding or ultrasonic method. The PET strap is suitable for both processes.
