Simple and with added value
The Jokey Euro Tainer Box JETB 12 has been one of the most successful packages in the Jokey range for two decades. After a thorough model update, the fourth generation of the bestseller is now available. The result: around 15 percent less weight. The small bucket has proved its worth particularly in the food industry. Its great strength is its optimal recyclability thanks to mono material. In terms of sustainability, it also convinces due to its reusability.
In the current environmental debate, plastic packaging is no easy matter. Plastic is downright demonized and only seen as waste that contaminates the world's oceans. The tasks and benefits of packaging are completely ignored, as are the outstanding physical efficiency of plastic packaging and its recyclability. The view must be more differentiated. 
Jokey's product developments show that modern plastic packaging can meet the highest demands in terms of functionality and sustainability. With its product innovation programmes, Jokey consistently pursues the goal of saving material and realising plastic packaging that conserves resources as much as possible without having to compromise on functionality. Thanks to intelligent design and innovative production processes, packaging characteristic such as stability, resistance to breakage and user-friendliness are continuously improved.
"We have always attached great importance to the use of homogeneous materials. They form the basis for a great variety of functionally convincing packaging solutions and an effective, high-quality recycling result in the downstream recycling processes as part of a circular economy," explains Ralf Kemmerich, COO of the Jokey Group.
Simply plastic - the optimum solution for recycling
The new JETB 12 - which will in future be part of the Jokey Slim Line (JSL) model series and will have the name JSLB 12 - is the best example of sustainable packaging. The single-material container is therefore homogeneous and free of foreign materials such as paper and metal, which could negatively affect subsequent recycling. A material separation by the consumer is not necessary. Less is more - this is also shown by the material savings: wall thicknesses, design details and production technology of the container were subjected to a feasibility study so that the small bucket could be trimmed to an optimum volume, which saves raw materials and CO2. The operating weight could be reduced by almost 15 percent compared to the previous generation and by more than 40 percent less compared to the first generation. "You can't tell by looking at it, but since the beginning of 2000 the small bucket has been one of the most exciting products in our range. Thanks to many technical innovations in detail, it has been possible to push the limits of feasibility further and further and to considerably reduce the material costs - a fascinating improvement process," reports Holger Siering, Head of Design and Development for Food Packaging.
Second use included - more than just disposable packaging
The model upgrade is decorated and refined with a material-homogeneous PP label according to the customer's wishes. This ensures that the bucket can be recycled without any problems, even with a label.  In addition to the standard layouts, Jokey offers many interesting features to optimally present the filling products with product information at the POS and to bring the filling products safely to the end consumer.
There is also the option of secondary use. By using removable peel-off labels, the original packaging can be transformed into a neutral utility container and then fulfil many new tasks in the household and workshop.

Jokey joins RAL Quality Association

Jokey has been a member of the RAL-Gütegemeinschaft Rezyklate since the beginning of the year, a quality association for recycled materials from household collections. The quality association founded by Grüner Punkt and partners in April 2018 voluntarily submits to the quality and testing regulations recognised by the RAL Institute..

As a member, Jokey will in future be entitled to use the RAL quality mark %-Recycling-Plastic. Jokey thus documents in which packaging plastics from the yellow bin are recycled and used and what their percentage share is.

"For our customers, the RAL quality mark creates maximum transparency", underlines Marketing Manager Michael Schmitz. "When plastic recyclates are used, a distinction must be made as to whether they originate from production waste or from waste generated by the end consumer. Since the very beginning, production waste has flowed back into the production of new plastic packaging in the form of so-called regranulates. With the new quality mark, we can now provide precise proof of the extent to which we actually use post-consumer recycled materials in the manufacture of our containers. This enables consumers to identify our environmentally conscious and resource-saving packaging more quickly at the point of sale."

First successes of recyclate campaign, started in 2018, have become apparent Against the background of the new Packaging Act (VerpackG), which came into force on January 1, 2019, Jokey once again focused on the increased use of secondary raw materials from post-consumer collections in the non-food sector. Since then, the topic has been promoted in a recyclate campaign, the initiative "Grey is the new green". Jokey has over 25 years of sound expertise in this field. In 1991, the company first launched grey recyclate buckets for the non-food industry. "Unfortunately, customers did not accept this packaging sufficiently at the time. Paints, building materials or chemical products are just as well and safely packaged in it as they are in new plastics ", Michael Schmitz also emphasizes. “Encouragingly our customers have recently become more and more open to the topic, and thus are increasingly considering the use of recyclates.”

RAL quality mark expands Jokey Eco Concept The use of the new RAL quality mark on Jokey plastic packaging, together with the recyclate campaign, is now intended to further promote ecological awareness among customers. In doing so, Jokey's responsible persons are focusing above all on the high acceptance of the independent and high-quality RAL quality mark by consumers. By joining the quality association, Jokey is consistently continuing its path which is centred around the Jokey Eco Concept with an attention-grabbing signal to customers and consumers: maximum sustainability along the entire production life cycle. "From our point of view, the new quality mark on our recycled packaging reinforces the message that packaging responsibility is a task for society as a whole," believes Michael Schmitz. Consumers could thus better understand that valuable raw materials remain in the cycle in order to conserve resources and protect the environment and climate in a sustainable manner.
