The RAKO-GROUP is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of digitally printed labels. Increasing quantities of digitally printed labels with a printing web width of up to 740 mm (HP Indigo 20000) are produced at all locations. The impressive high-definition print quality and colour fidelity open up a wide range of application possibilities. Very short set-up times and the reduction of set-up material to a bare minimum enable us to achieve the highest possible level of flexibility; this, in turn, allows us to meet customer requirements by means of increased range diversity, smaller production batches, frequent changes of artwork and shorter delivery times – with an unlimited variety of base materials. The latest machine generation also demonstrates that digital printing is by no means restricted to small and medium-sized production runs, but also allows large batches to be produced economically.

Variable data printing (VDP) enables unique labels to be produced, for example with a one-off personalised 2D or QR code. This is a simple way of enabling the serialisation and traceability of the labelled product. Variable data printing is not restricted to codes, either; it is equally suitable for graphics, colours and images, which creates a whole new world of marketing possibilities (as already shown by well-known “mass customisation” marketing campaigns such as “Share a Coke” and “Your own Heineken”).

MOSAIC technology is a further highlight here; vector-based graphics and ornaments are scaled and positioned at random by an automated workflow, producing an amazingly diverse and unique range of labels. These result in a really eye-catching effect at POS and a brand look that is easily distinguishable from the competition.

In the field of digital double- and multi-layer labels, the RAKO-GROUP has also developed ways of accommodating multiple information and language versions on a label using digital printing alone, with no need to resort to conventional printing technologies. Now small and medium production runs of double- and multi-layer labels are also possible.

Besides the well-established digital toner technology, UV inkjet printing is now playing an increasingly important role. The strengths of UV inkjet are the high opacity of the inks, high gloss and colour brightness, and a texture similar to screen printing. An even wider range of colours is available after the addition of orange and violet to the hexachrome colour spectrum. The outstanding mechanical and chemical resistance of this technology makes it ideal for applications where high product durability is required. This impact-free printing process is also predestined for what is known as “late-stage differentiation”, in which static, variety-independent print areas can be printed conventionally in advance, with any variable, variety-specific printing subsequently being added flexibly, quickly and precisely. This allows virtually “on-the-fly” changes of product variety.

Allow yourself be inspired by the unlimited possibilities offered by the world of digital printing.
