New Insulating Technology Increases Energy Efficiency of Nordson MiniBlue® II Hot Melt Adhesive Applicators
High Speed Hot Melt Adhesive Dispensing Guns Close the Performance Gap between Pneumatic and Electric Applicators in Packaging Industry
Nordson Corporation is applying new insulating technology to increase the energy efficiency of its award-winning MiniBlue II series of high speed, hot melt adhesive dispensing applicators, first introduced in March 2010. The MiniBlue II guns with new insulating covers, which continue to surpass the operating life of other pneumatic applicators in the packaging industry by more than double, consume approximately 27 percent less energy in static air and 37 percent less energy in dynamic air as a result of this new enhancement.
Rick Pallante, packaging market development manager at Nordson, said, “MiniBlue II pneumatic applicators can be used to replace electric applicators in many packaging applications. They also deliver twice the life of any pneumatic hot melt dispensing gun.”
MiniBlue II applicators are designed for superior, consistent performance in demanding environments:
•Deliver fast (2 ms) cycle times and superior high-speed performance through an innovative combination of advanced solenoid technology and module design
•Provide stronger air-open/air-close force for cleaner operation at high speeds using enhanced ball-and-seat design and patented and patent pending seal technology
•Do not require an external driver to achieve high speeds, reducing costs and maintenance
When paired with Nordson Saturn® Platinum (SP) solenoids, MiniBlue II applicators provide a powerful combination of high-speed performance, fast on/off cycle rates and long operating life. These characteristics also make the MiniBlue II applicator ideal for adhesive stitching, in which short intermittent beads replace longer continuous beads, resulting in adhesive savings of up to 50 percent. Moreover, stitched adhesive delivers bond strength and fiberboard tear equal to longer adhesive beads.
The MiniBlue II applicators, which recently won the prestigious German Packaging Award from the German Packaging Institute, are fully backward compatible with the previous generation of MiniBlue products.
