Packaging to meet the contrasting demands of pharmaceutical and medical technology applications
The worldwide demand for packaging for medical technology and pharmaceutical applications continues to show double-digit growth. Increased demand goes hand in hand with higher standards – and vice versa. In order to develop medtech devices, scientists need to reach across disciplinary boundaries and combine their particular expertise and knowledge. Additional issues include product liability, ergonomics, usability, safety engineering and communication.
Packaging plays a crucial role in this context and mustmeet stringent standards in the field of medical technology. In this area, there is a demand for innovative design concepts, high-quality materials for product protection and an appealing appearance for product presentation. Naturally, packaging must be easy to store and sterilize effectively and meet all the respective environmental compliance standards. Packaging for pharmaceutical applications must provide a great deal more than just protection for the contents. Packaging helps ensure the right dosage, application and use of active ingredients (compliance) and – especially in this area – must also be both child-resistant and senior user friendly. Packaging also protects products from counterfeiting and must be designed to preserve the integrity (tamper evidence) of packaged pharmaceutical products.
